报告摘要:
Innovation is the process of converting basic knowledge into useful solutions to people’s needs. Regardless of whether this is done by companies “for profit,” or for philanthropic reasons, the final product must be able to be manufactured, and must meet certain performance and cost requirements to be useful. Academic institutions and industry both commonly participate in this process. This talk discusses the different contributions that academic research and industrial development and engineering commonly make to the overall innovation process. As an example, the complete development of one common industrial product is traced from its beginning to today’s commercial reality.
