(Correspondent: Chen Lin) On Aug 24^th, 2018, the training session on newly appointed graduate supervisors of the School of Mechanical Engineering of Tianjin University (TJU) has been successfully held in the Conference Hall of Weijin Road Campus.

The participants include leadership of the Graduate School of TJU and the School of Mechanical Engineering, and newly appointed graduate supervisors of the School of Mechanical Engineering from 2016 to 2018. Professor Jiao Kui, Director of Graduate Office of the School of Mechanical Engineering, has chaired this session.

Professor Jiao Kui, Vice Dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering, has made a detailed report on the enrollment, academic cultivation, overseas exchange programs, and the enrollment and training of international students of the School. Sun He, Director of the Admissions Office, has elaborated the time frame for enrolling doctoral students, big data analysis of the enrollment situation over the years and the admission policy. Having firstly explained the scale and structure of graduates currently in school, orientation of classified training and the functions of Academic Office, Qi Wei, Director of the Academic Office, also highlighted the importance of dissertation proposal and the mid-term examination of doctoral students’ forum. Furthermore, the realization path of connecting the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree consecutively and the foundation for fostering new system were discussed. By introducing provisions on degree awarding, the process of granting doctoral degrees and definition of academic papers, Cai Jihong, Director of the Office of Graduate School Degree, has put great emphases on explaining the importance of random inspection of academic paper. According to Cai, each supervisor, as the first person responsible for their students, should strengthen students’ and academic management. An overall introduction about the granting work and policy system of scholarships and student subsidy has been given by Lu Zhengsong, Director of the Comprehensive Office, who also set up graduates’ scholarship and subsidy program.

Aiming at jointly exploring how to enroll high-quality students and cultivate high-quality graduates, this training session, held by the School of Mechanical Engineering, has also demonstrated great support from the Graduate School of TJU and the School of Mechanical Engineering in the future work of new appointed supervisors. At the session, the supervisors have made active discussions on relevant issues about themselves with leadership of the Graduate School, who have also made replies to them respectively.
