Academic experience: Dr. Yabin Ding serves as the associate professor for school of mechanical engineering at Tianjin University. Prior to joining Tianjin University in 2007 he graduated with a Ph.D degree in Measuring Technology and Instrument from School of Precision Instrument and Opto-Electronics Engineering at Tianjin University. His PhD research focused on three-dimensional imaging and modeling. In April 2007, Ding joined school of mechanical engineering, Tianjin University, as a lecturer to investigate machine vision and its applications. In October 2014, he was appointed as an associate professor. From February to September 2014, Ding has been an academic visitor to the University of Bedfordshire,UK funded by EU FP7 projects (ECROBOT project ). From September 2017 to September 2018, Ding has been an academic visitor to the University of Warwick, UK.

Research interest: Currently, Ding’s academic interests are in optical metrology technologies for aircraft structure manufacturing. It sets out to demonstrate how optical metrology systems, including those using laser and photogrammetry , can be employed to overcome the challenges of large scale and high quality manufacturing. His research has been funded by National Natural Science Foundation of China-- Major International (Regional) Joint Research Project. The overseas cooperative partners include the School of Engineering at the University of Warwick UK and the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Queen’s University of Belfast UK.

He has published 21 papers in journals cited by SCI/EI, and authorized over 4 patents at home. He has participated in 3 research projects granted from National Natural Science Foundation of China and Key Technologies R&D Program of China.
