报告题目:A Consistent and Uniformly-valid Asymptotic Plate Theory for Soft Materials

摘要:Despite of many years of research, constructing a consistent plate theory incorporating both bending, stretching and rotation was an open problem until recently. For soft materials, it could be questionable whether traditional plate theories are applicable due to finite-strain effects. In this talk, we present a finite-strain plate theory for soft materials consistent with the principle of stationary three-dimensional (3D) potential energy under general loadings with a fourth-order error. Starting from the 3D nonlinear elasticity (with both geometrical and material nonlinearity) and by a series expansion, we deduce a vector plate equation with three unknowns, which reserves both local force balance and torque balance. The success relies on using the 3D field equations and bottom traction condition to derive exact recursion relations for the coefficients. By further asymptotic reductions, five well-known plate theories are deduced as special cases, which demonstrates its uniform validity. We also consider a number of benchmark problems (for which 3D exact solutions are available) and the comparisons show that this consistent plate theory can indeed provide correct asymptotic results for displacements and stresses distributions. As an application, it is shown that our plate theory of growth can provide analytical solutions for shape-programing induced by growth field.
简历:戴晖辉,男,1984年本科毕业于浙江大学力学系,1990年博士毕业于英国纽卡斯尔大学工程数学系(导师为Professor A. Jeffrey)。1990-1994年任职于加拿大University of Western Ontario、University of Manitoba。1994回国加入香港城市大学数学系,历任助理教授(1994),副教授(2000),教授(2008)。主要从事固体中的分岔与失稳、相变、非线性波、渐进方法在固体力学中的应用、板壳理论的研究;主持国家自然科学基金、香港RGC项目多项;在Physical Review Letters, Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids, International Journal of Plasticity, SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, International Journal of Solids and Structures, Proc. Roy. Soc. Lond. A等期刊发表学术论文120余篇;担任SCI期刊International Journal of Non-linear Mechanics, Analysis and Applications,Journal of Hydrodynamics编委。
